Save Our Forests petition
Our campaign to Save Our Forests has hit the headlines! First our petition and then an opinion poll - paid for by hundreds of 38 Degrees members - were reported on the Today programme and BBC 5 Live breakfast. Then a group including the Archbishop of Canterbury backed our campaign - making the front page of the Sunday Telegraph! Our pressure is starting to work. If we keep the petition growing, we can make the government think again.
Together, we can to stop these plans - before it is too late and our forests are already being sold, fenced off, run down, cut down or built over. Click here to add your name to the Save Our Forests petition:

Sign the petition against GM foods!
The European Commission has just authorised growing genetically modified crops, putting the GM lobby's profits over the health concerns of the public. Already 800,000 of us have signed against this. Click below to sign the petition and help reach the 1 million citizen's petition target calling for independent research and strong regulation of GM foods.
The European Commission has recently approved growing genetically modified crops in the European Union for the first time in 12 years! But already 800,000 of us have signed up to oppose the move.
Caving to the GM lobby, the commission has ignored 60% of Europeans who feel we have to get the facts first before growing foods that could pose a threat to our health and environment.
A new initiative allows 1 million EU citizens to make official legal requests of the European Commission. We are nearly there -- Let's build a million voices for a ban on GM foods until the research is done; they will be delivered to the President Barroso of the European Commission. Sign the petition and forward the message to friends and family: http://www.avaaz.org/en/eu_gmo/?vl
Consumers, public health, environmental and farmers groups have long rallied against a few international GM companies having such significant influence over European agriculture. Concerns about growing GM crops include: contamination of organic crops and the environment; their impact on climate due to the excessive need for pesticides; the destruction of biodiversity and local agriculture; and the effects of GM food on public health.
EU member states have voiced strong opposition to last week's decision to authorise BASF's potato and Monsanto's maize -- Italy and Austria are opposed, and France said it would ask for further scientific research.
There is still no consensus on the long-term effects of GM crops. And it is the GM industry, pursuing profits not public well being, that is funding the science and driving the regulatory environment. That is why European citizens are calling for more independent research, testing and precaution before crops are unleashed onto our land.
Now, the "European Citizens' Initiative" gives 1 million EU citizens the opportunity to submit policy proposals to the European Commission and offers us a unique chance to drown out lobbyists' influence.
We can reach 1 million voices now to put a moratorium on the introduction of GM crops into Europe and set up an independent, ethical and scientific body to research and determine the strong regulation of GM crops. Sign the petition now and then forward it widely:

Tell the Prime Minister 'don't cut the life from our countryside'
From RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds)
We have one last chance to influence how the spending cuts will affect our wildlife. That’s one last chance to secure the funding that supports those who are dedicated to protecting our countryside and the wildlife within it. We need your help now more than ever. It’s time to tell the Prime Minister 'don't cut the life from our countryside.'
The future of some of our most iconic and precious landscapes, like the Lake District and the Somerset Levels, along with the wildlife that depends on them, is seriously threatened. Without funding they will decline further, and we face losing trilling skylarks and buzzing bumblebees as well as a host of other plants and wildlife that are at the very heart of our countryside and provide experiences that enrich our lives. This really is our last chance to urge the Prime Minister to speak up for nature and live up to his pledge to lead the 'greenest government ever'.
Please email David Cameron now. Go to: http://campaigning.rspb.org.uk/ea-campaign/clientcampaign.do?ea.client.id=13&ea.campaign.id=7999&ea.tracking.id=PM%20solus
Together we can remind him just how precious our wildlife and our landscapes are and urge him to protect them, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of the nation’s wellbeing and so they’ll be there for future generations to enjoy. It only takes a couple of minutes.
Thanks again for your support!

Can EcoTeams Help You Achieve Your Goals?
Over 1,000 people in Nottingham have been part of an EcoTeam, a short-term group which meets six times to plan practical actions to reduce each household’s impact on the environment. They look to reduce energy and water use, increase recycling and think about greener ways to travel. It’s a practical way to get together with other local people and support each other to make changes. By taking simple measurements along the way you also get personal feedback on any savings you’ve made.
EcoTeams are completely free and there are plans to run an event to explain what they’re all about if there is enough interest. To find out more about EcoTeams please contact Tom Veitch from Global Action Plan – [email protected].
