What do you think about Tesco coming to Beeston? Are you for or against? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Leave your comments here, or better still, tell the Council. There isn't much time to make sure that your voice is heard.

I am not happy about the new planning application made by Tesco for Beeston. It is for a store nearly twice as big as the one they already have permission for. This will be achieved with a mezzanine floor and will have a total floorspace of 9000msq. A store of this size will no doubt have a pharmacy and photoshop and sell clothes, hardware, electrical items as well food. Do we already have adequate provision in Beeston for this type of shopping? I believe we do and that such a large store will threaten many of our small businesses. The store will bring further traffic and congestion into the town centre. Anyone who feels the same way must object to the council's planning department on the website/by letter/email. It is also worth lobbying your local councillor.

The public consultation period is now over, but we can still object until 10th December, the date of the Planning and Development Committee meeting which will decide whether to grant consent for this larger Tesco store. I have had this confirmed by the planning case officer, Mr. Bassett.

There is an interesting site called Tescopoly which gives all sorts of interesting info about Tesco's world trading, and guidance from Friends of the Earth on how to challenge an application and other helpful tips. Very interesting links in other towns in UK and suggestions that a national movement be formed et cetera

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.
