The first action of the newly formed LEGGO - Long Eaton Guerilla Gardening Operation - quietly took place this Sunday morning (19th October) on scrub land adjacent to Manor Park on the Toton/Long Eaton border.
2 women, 1 child and a supportive cocker spaniel planted some fruit bushes in the shelter of trees alongside grassland so far mainly used by horse riders from St Leonards Riding School.
The sun shone gently as we dug down through the couch grass and nettles and filled the holes with very local mole-hills. Fertiliser was sourced from recent outings by St. Leonards horses and mulch was foraged from surrounding pathways. Finally the new young plants were settled in with water from the nearby beck.
We hope others will help us keep an eye on the new bushes and we will certainly tend to them as we walk to and from school during the coming months. Does anyone else want to join in with our next outing?? Get in touch via the Beeston Transition blog!
