Beeston Community Kitchen Garden

Part of our vision is for a community where much of our food is locally grown. The Community Kitchen Garden will be used to demonstrate the variety of vegetables that can be grown throughout the seasons and to encourage people to try growing their own at home. It will also be a place for sharing skills and knowledge about growing and celebrating seasons and harvests.

The team of volunteers will meet at the Kitchen Garden on the second and fourth Saturday of every month, from 10.30am. The Community Kitchen Garden is off Central Avenue, Beeston. Everyone is very welcome to join us.

Future food related activities

Following our successful Seed Swap in February and the
Plant & Seedling Swap in May we are planning to hold another Seed Swap in February. Dates and details to be confirmed.

Save the Honey Bees - petition

If you haven't heard honey bees in Britain - mainly in rural areas - are dying out. The jury is out on exactly why but the Soil Association is convinced that the use of neonicontinoid pesticides is a major factor - this seems to be backed up by the fact city bees - unemcumbered by pesticides - are, in contrast, thriving. You may not have a soft spot for bees but when pollination rates drop this has a knock-on effect to the world's food supply and could lead to disastrous shortages.  So please sign the petition and forward to as many people as you can.
